Japan-only special editions have always been a problem for video game collectors, but things aren’t so bad with Koei Tecmo’s Fate/Samurai Remnant.
While it’s true that the West will just get the Treasure Box edition and not the version of it bundled with the Miyamoto Musashi figure, which is available only in Japan, turns out that the figure can be purchased separately, and pre-orders are already available .
You can reserve yours at Ami Ami, which ships to Western countries without issues. The only drawback is that the separate release of the figure will come later than the game, in June 2024, and it doesn’t come with a power effect part at the bottom.
Otherwise, the figure is identical and it comes in 1/7 scale, approximately 250mm tall. The price is 28,000 yen, which translates to approximately $197. Considering that the Japanese edition costs 49,380 yen ($348), and the western Treasure Box costs $115, you’re actually potentially saving a few bucks depending on shipping costs, as long as you can stand waiting a few months longer for the figure.
You can check out what it looks like below.
Fate/Samurai Remnant will release on September 28, 2023, for PS5, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch in Japan, while the western release will be on September 29 for the same platforms. If you’re unfamiliar with the Fate series, it debuted in 2004 with the adult-oriented visual novel titled Fate/stay night. Like many popular franchises that started as eroge, it has since relinquished its adult nature (albeit it retained plenty of fanservice) becoming a massive multimedia IP including anime, manga, and more, the ultra-popular Fate/Grand Order mobile game contributed to cementing its popularity worldwide.
