Photo-mode is a gamer’s best friend, and this applies to Tears of the Kingdom as well. Just like in Breath of the Wild, you can take photos using your new Purah Pad. But sadly, this is an easily missable feature if you don’t start the right quest. We’ll explain how to take photos in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom so you can become Hyrule’s best photographer!
How to unlock the camera feature in Tears of the Kingdom
Once you make it off of Great Sky Island, and have progressed enough in the main quest, you’ll eventually find Robbie in Lookout Landing. He’ll be chatting with Josha about taking pictures in the Hyrule Chasms. This will start the ‘Camera Work in the Depths’ side quest. Now, make your way to the Hyrule Field Chasm, and jump down.
To survive and find Robbie in this enormous area, make sure you have a lot of Brightbloom Seeds. An adventurer named Ponnick will tell you that Robbie headed west, so you’ll need to make your way there while lighting up the area with Brightbloom seeds. The easiest way to do this is by holding the ‘R’ button, then pressing up on the d-pad to throw the item. Once it hits the ground, it will illuminate the area around it.
Make sure to light up any Lightroot you see, which will also uncover some of the underground map area. Eventually, you should find Robbie near the Iayusus Lightroot. Interact with it to bring light to the area, and talk to Robbie. Finally, he’ll give you the camera feature on your Purah Pad, and ask that you take a photo of the mysterious statue nearby.
Now you know how to take photos in Tears of the Kingdom! To access this new ability, hold the ‘L’ button and select Camera. Similar to Breath of the Wild, you can take landscape shots, and even self-portraits. If you move the left joystick in different directions, Link will strike different poses.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on the Nintendo Switch.
