The Playstation 5 Access Controller

In an official post, Sony goes into detail about the PlayStation 5 Access Controller.

This controller is the result of Sony’s collaboration with multiple accessibility organizations and experts for the past five years. The result is a controller that will allow more players with disabilities to enjoy gaming on Playstation 5 comfortably and for longer periods.

To that end, the Access Controller is highly customizable. The stick and button caps can be put into various shapes and designs. The controller can be operated from any 360-degree orientation. In addition, it is compatible with any third-party accessibility accessories thanks to industry-standard 3.5 mm expansion ports.

The PlayStation 5 Access Controller can be customized further through the console itself.

Buttons can be mapped to create up to 30 control profiles, stick settings can be adjusted, and toggle commands can be switched on and off. Buttons can also be disabled to prevent accidental pressing. Finally, two Access Controllers and one Dualsense can be paired together and used collaboratively.

Overall, the PlayStation 5 Access Controller will feature the following:

  • 19 button caps (1 Wide, 2 Overhang, 4 Curve, 8 Pillow, and 4 Flat)
  • 3 Stick Caps: 1 Ball, 1 Standard, 1 Dome
  • 23 Swappable Button Cap Tags
  • 4 Expansion Ports
  • A 1.5m USB Type-C to Type-C Cable
  • A quickstart guide and safety guide

The PlayStation 5 Access Controller will be available globally on December 6. It will be available for pre-order on July 21 for a suggested retail price of $89.99.
